Section 1.1

Canton Fair 2025 — Complete Schedule

The 137th Canton Fair runs across three phases in April and May 2025. Each phase covers different product categories — plan your trip around what's relevant to your business.

Phase 1
April 15 – 19, 2025
Area A · Halls 1.1 – 9.2
Electronics & Appliances Industrial Machinery Vehicles & Motorcycles Lighting & Electrical Hardware & Tools
Phase 2
April 23 – 27, 2025
Area B · Halls 10.1 – 16.4
Home Décor & Gifts Building Materials Furniture Household & Kitchenware
Phase 3
May 1 – 5, 2025
Area C · Halls 17.1 – 19.2
Toys & Baby Products Fashion & Apparel Home Textiles Stationery Health & Recreation
💡
Pro Tip: If your business spans multiple categories (e.g. electronics AND furniture), you must attend both Phase 1 and Phase 2. There is no overlap — halls are completely reset between phases. Plan multi-phase visits in advance.
Section 1.2

Registration & Badge Collection

Overseas buyers (境外采购商): register free on cantonfair.org.cn under Overseas Buyer Registration, then collect a physical badge at the airport or Pazhou. Official badges are free — ignore anyone who asks for a “fee”. Walk-in without pre-registration is possible but often means long queues (up to ~2 hours).

What to do (in order)
1
Apply online with company details, CAC, passport scan → receive confirmation by email (usually 24–48h).
2
Install the Canton Fair App, log in — your digital QR badge appears before the phase (e.g. from Apr 10 for the 137th session).
3
On arrival, collect the printed badge at an official counter (airport or Pazhou — see table). Bring original passport + confirmation; one badge covers the whole phase.
4
Foreign exhibitors with a booth: follow your organiser — the sample below is the standard buyer pass for hall entry.

Section 1.3

Venue Layout & Navigation

The Canton Fair Pazhou Complex is divided into multiple exhibition areas (A–D), halls, metro links, and gates. Use the official floor plan below together with the zone summary cards.

Official venue floor plan
Layout reference: Areas A (blue), B (yellow), C (green), D (purple), hall numbers, Pearl River side, Line 8 metro (Xingangdong & Pazhou), and perimeter gates. Tap the map for a full-screen view — then pinch or scroll to inspect details.
A
Zone A — North Entrance
Electronics · Machinery · Vehicles · Hardware
Metro: Pazhou Station (Line 8)
B
Zone B — Central
Home · Gifts · Furniture · Building Materials
Metro: Pazhou Station (Line 8)
C
Zone C — South
Toys · Fashion · Textiles · Health
Metro: Xingangdong Station (Line 8)
🏢

Metro: Pazhou Station (Line 8)
👟
Hall A to Hall C is approximately 2 kilometres of walking. Wear very comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle — a full day on the fair floor is physically demanding. Trolleys are available to rent inside the venue.
Section 1.4

Shuttle Bus & Metro to the Venue

Baiyun Airport (CAN) is about 40 km from the Pazhou fair complex. During the fair you can use free official shuttles (airport, hotels, stations) or metro — metro from the airport is usually the cheapest and most predictable option.

Baiyun Airport → Pazhou

After landing, follow signs to metro, buses, or the official taxi queue. Never follow touts inside the terminal offering “cheap” rides — common scam.

Best value
Metro
≈ ¥7–12 · 60–75 min
Line 3 from Airport South (机场南) → Tiyu Xilu, change to Line 8Pazhou. Buy a Yangcheng Tong card at the airport (¥30 deposit + top-up).
Amap ride-hailing
≈ ¥120–180 · 45–60 min
Book in Amap (高德). Needs Alipay / card set-up — see Module 04 · Alipay Setup.
Airport shuttle bus
≈ ¥25–35 · 60–90 min
Airport counter · often Route 6 toward Haizhu / near Pazhou. Have hotel name in Chinese.
Official yellow taxi
≈ ¥180–250 · metered
Use only the airport taxi queue. Ignore anyone who approaches you inside arrivals.
Last leg — Line 8 · Pazhou Station

Get off at Pazhou(琶洲) and leave through Exit A for the main fair side (follow hall signs). Xingangdong(新港东) on the same line is closer to the northern / Area D side.

Pazhou platform on Line 8 — bilingual name above the doors. Tap the photo for full screen.
Free fair shuttles (hotels & hubs)

Official shuttles run on fair days, roughly 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Show badge / registration as required. Full maps and times: Canton Fair App → Shuttle Service.

⚠️
Scam alert: Touts may say the shuttle is “full” or “cancelled” — check the Canton Fair App before paying for a taxi.

How to Verify Chinese Suppliers

Attending Canton Fair is a positive signal, but it does not guarantee a supplier is legitimate. Nigerian traders lose millions of Naira every year to unverified suppliers. Always verify independently.

Qichacha (企查查) — Company Background Check

Qichacha and Tianyancha are China's leading business intelligence platforms — similar to combining a company registry with a credit bureau. They pull data directly from the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation.

1
Download Qichacha (企查查) from your app store, or visit qichacha.com
2
Ask the supplier to share their Chinese company name (in Chinese characters)
3
Search the name and review the company profile carefully
Key Fields to Review
注册资本 — Registered Capital
Should be at least ¥500,000 for a credible exporter. Very low capital (¥10,000–¥50,000) is a warning sign.
成立日期 — Establishment Date
Older companies (5+ years) carry significantly lower risk. Companies under 1 year old need extra scrutiny.
经营状态 — Business Status
Must show 存续 (Active). If it shows 注销 (Cancelled) or 吊销 (Revoked) — stop immediately and do not proceed.
股东信息 — Shareholders
Frequent ownership changes are a red flag. Understand who ultimately owns and controls the company.
司法风险 — Legal / Court Cases
Any active lawsuits, especially unpaid debt cases or breach of contract claims, are serious red flags. Pause your deal.
经营异常 — Business Anomalies
Any official government warnings or anomaly flags mean the company has been flagged by Chinese authorities. Do not proceed.
✅ Green Flags — Safer to Proceed
Business active 5+ years · Registered capital above ¥1 million · No court cases · Export license visible · ISO certifications on file · XTransfer certification badge displayed at their booth
⛔ Red Flags — Stop and Investigate Further
Company under 1 year old · Very low registered capital · Past court judgements · Business anomalies listed · Supplier refuses to share company name in Chinese characters
XTransfer Certified Suppliers
✅ XTransfer Certified Supplier
Displays XTransfer badge at their booth or on documents
Can receive USD/CNY payment via XTransfer platform
Identity and business license independently verified by XTransfer compliance team
Verify authenticity at xtransfer.com/verify
⚠️ Unverified Supplier — Extra Due Diligence Required
Always run a Qichacha background check before any payment
Request third-party inspection for orders above $3,000 USD
Never pay 100% upfront without escrow protection or Alibaba Trade Assurance
Section 2.2

Payment Safety & China's FX Rules

Payment is the single highest-risk moment in any trade deal. Nigerian traders have lost tens of millions of Naira to fraud, account freezes, and informal FX channels. China strictly regulates foreign exchange and financial security — banks and payment institutions are subject to intensive anti–money laundering (AML) and compliance reviews. Funds that arrive through black-market or unverified routes are very likely to trigger alerts: the money can be held, returned, or linked to a freeze on your supplier's corporate account. Many Chinese suppliers will refuse to work with you if you insist on paying through channels they cannot reconcile with their books and regulators. Use only traceable, licensed methods.

⚠️
Why black-market payments backfire in China: Authorities and banks scrutinise inbound flows to exporter accounts. If your payment cannot show a clean, verifiable trade background, the supplier's account may be frozen for weeks or months — killing production and your relationship. Serious suppliers increasingly reject black-market or personal-account payments altogether because the compliance risk is too high for their business.
Black Market / Bureau de Change
Extreme Risk
Rate varies; often 5–15% loss
NEVER USE — No legal protection; funds can vanish. Under China's strict FX and AML rules, such inflows can freeze your supplier's account. Many suppliers will refuse to accept this type of payment.
Personal Bank Wire (Nigerian Bank → China)
High Risk
2–5% fees + poor exchange rate
High risk of account freeze due to AML rules in both countries. Slow (3–7 days). Often blocked for China transactions entirely.
Alibaba Trade Assurance
Medium Risk
0–3% platform fee
Good for Alibaba platform orders. Does NOT cover Canton Fair direct-purchase deals — read the terms carefully.
XTransfer — Recommended
Low Risk
Flat fee from $6 USD · No amount limit
✅ Best option — Fast (1–2 business days), fully licensed under Chinese and Nigerian financial regulations. Supplier receives USD or CNY with a verified paper trail.
Letter of Credit (L/C)
Low Risk
1–3% of transaction value
Best for large orders ($50,000+). Complex paperwork makes it impractical for most Canton Fair purchases.
Why Chinese Suppliers Prefer XTransfer
🔒
Fully Compliant — No Frozen Accounts
Licensed by Chinese financial regulators (CBIRC) and Nigerian CBN-registered. Anti-money-laundering compliant in both countries. Zero risk of account freeze for either party.
Arrives in 1–2 Business Days
Funds arrive in the supplier's account within 48 hours. The supplier receives an instant notification — speeding up your order fulfilment.
💰
Low Flat Fee · No Maximum
From $6 USD flat per transaction, regardless of size. No maximum transaction limit. No Form M or CBN documentation required.
Open Your Account Before You Travel
Verification takes 24–48 hours. Don't wait until you're standing face-to-face with a supplier in Guangzhou. Register now so you can pay the moment you find the right product.

Section 2.3

Trade Dispute Resolution

Despite best precautions, disputes happen. If a supplier fails to deliver, delivers substandard goods, or disappears after payment — follow this process immediately.

01
Document Everything Immediately
Take photos or video of goods on receipt. Record exactly what was ordered versus what arrived. Screenshot all WeChat conversations, emails, and payment receipts. Timestamps matter.
02
Contact the Supplier — Within 48 Hours
Send a formal written message via WeChat or email, clearly stating the specific issue and your requested resolution (replacement, refund, or partial credit). Keep the tone professional. Most disputes are resolved at this stage.
03
Escalate to XTransfer (If Paid via XTransfer)
XTransfer has a built-in buyer protection and dispute mediation process. Contact your account manager or XTransfer customer service with your documentation. The platform can mediate and, in some cases, facilitate refunds or payment reversals.
04
File a Complaint with Canton Fair Organisers
Submit a formal complaint to the Canton Fair Trade Dispute Settlement Centre, located at the Buyer Service Centre in each zone. They maintain a blacklist of bad actors and can apply pressure on exhibitors.
05
CIETAC Arbitration — For Large Disputes
For disputes above $10,000 USD, file with the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission. This requires a Chinese lawyer and takes 6–18 months, but decisions are legally enforceable in China.
06
Nigerian Embassy in China
If you are in physical danger or dealing with criminal fraud (not just a business dispute), contact the Nigerian Embassy in Beijing or the Nigerian Consulate in Guangzhou immediately.

Section 3.1

Chinese Visa — Nigeria Application

Nigerian citizens must obtain a Chinese visa before travel. Apply through the Embassy in Abuja or Consulate in Lagos. Apply at least 6–8 weeks in advance — Canton Fair season is peak demand period.

Required Documents — Full Checklist
🛂
Valid International Passport
Minimum 6 months validity beyond intended stay · at least 2 blank pages
Must be original — no photocopies accepted at submission
📝
Visa Application Form V.2013
Download from chinese-embassy.org.ng · complete in English or Chinese only
Every field must be completed — blank fields are grounds for rejection
🖼
Passport Photographs

No glasses, no headwear · face must fill 70–80% of the frame
✈️
Flight Booking Confirmation

Must show both entry into China and exit from China
🏨
Hotel Booking Confirmation
Hotel name, address, dates, and your full name — for every night of your stay in China

🎪
Canton Fair Registration Confirmation
Printout or screenshot of your buyer registration approval email
✅ Strong proof of legitimate business purpose — always include this for business visas
🏢
Business Registration Certificate
Nigerian CAC certificate — certified copy, not a plain photocopy
Must be current and valid — an expired CAC is automatic grounds for rejection
🏦
Bank Statement
Last 6 months · minimum equivalent of ~$3,000 USD · must be stamped and signed by your bank
Must be on official bank letterhead — a printed internet statement is not accepted
💰
Visa Application Fee
Approximately ₦45,000–₦60,000 (confirm exact amount with the embassy before visiting)
Pay only directly at the embassy counter — never through agents or middlemen
Recommended: Book your visa appointment at least 6 weeks before travel. The Lagos Consulate is consistently slower than Abuja during Canton Fair season — consider applying in Abuja if you can.
Section 3.2

7 Reasons Nigerians Get Rejected

The Chinese embassy rarely explains the specific reason for a rejection. Prevention is essential — these are the most common failure points for Nigerian applicants.

Insufficient funds in bank account
Maintain a balance of at least ₦5 million (~$3,000 USD) for 3+ months before applying. A sudden large deposit right before the application looks suspicious and often triggers rejection.
Incomplete or inconsistent application form
Fill every single field carefully. Dates, names, and passport numbers must exactly match your passport — do not abbreviate anything.
Hotel booking doesn't match travel dates
Book accommodation for every night of your trip. If you also plan to visit Yiwu or Shenzhen, book hotels there too and include those confirmations.
No clear proof of business purpose
Always include your Canton Fair registration confirmation. Attach your CAC certificate and any existing supplier communication to demonstrate a genuine trade relationship.
Previous visa overstay or immigration violation
Always declare this honestly. Misrepresentation is grounds for a permanent travel ban — not just rejection.
Passport too new with no travel history
This is not an automatic rejection, but you should include extra business documentation. A formal invitation letter from a Chinese supplier helps significantly in this case.
Photos not meeting the exact specifications
Always use an embassy-approved professional photo studio. Phone selfies or photos with coloured backgrounds will be rejected at the counter without even reviewing the rest of your file.
Section 3.3

Nigerian Departure Rules

When leaving Nigeria, be aware of these restrictions enforced by Nigerian Customs (NCS) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

💵
Cash Export Limit
Max $10,000 USD (or equivalent) without a formal declaration. Amounts above this must be declared using CBN Form A before departure.
🇳🇬
No Naira Exports
You may not export more than ₦5,000 in Nigerian currency. Leave your Naira in Nigeria — you cannot spend it in China anyway.
📦
Commercial Goods
Goods worth more than $1,000 USD must be declared on departure for documentation and customs purposes.
💻
Personal Electronics
No restrictions on personal laptops or phones. Keep purchase receipts as proof of existing ownership to avoid issues on return.
Section 3.4

Chinese Customs on Arrival

Failure to comply with Chinese customs rules can result in fines, confiscation of goods, and future travel bans. Declare anything you are unsure about — it is always safer.

Arrival card (入境卡) — complete online, skip the queue

You can fill in your China arrival card digitally before you reach the immigration counter. Open WeChat or Alipay, go to Mini Programs, and search for 12367 (National Immigration Administration). Use the official mini program to submit your arrival information online: it is free, and you avoid lining up for a paper form at the port of entry.

📱
Steps: Alipay or WeChat → search mini program 「12367」 → follow prompts to complete your arrival card electronically. No fee. Have your passport and flight details ready. If the app flow changes, follow the on-screen instructions in the official 12367 mini program.

Items with Taiwan, Tibet, or politically sensitive imagery — confiscated at security
Prescription drugs without a doctor's letter — always carry documentation even for common medications
Counterfeit goods — ensure all product samples are genuine items with proper documentation
💡
Practical Tip: When purchasing goods at Canton Fair to bring back as samples, keep every receipt. Chinese customs may inspect your bags on exit. Nigerian customs will inspect your goods on return. Commercial quantities without documentation will be seized at either border.

Section 4.1

Essential Apps to Install

China's digital ecosystem is completely separate from the global internet. WhatsApp, Google Maps, and Instagram are all blocked. Install all critical apps before you land in China — you cannot download them once inside.

🔴 Critical — install before landing
WeChat
Think: China's WhatsApp + OPay in one
Every Chinese supplier uses WeChat. It's how they communicate, share catalogues, confirm orders, and receive payments. Without it, you will miss deals.
Register with your Nigerian number (+234) before you travel. When you meet suppliers, share your WeChat ID — not your WhatsApp number. They don't use WhatsApp.
🔴 Critical — install before landing
Alipay
Think: China's OPay — used everywhere
The default way everyone pays in China — from street food vendors to major department stores. Without Alipay, you will struggle to buy almost anything outside hotels.
Since 2024, Alipay supports direct international Visa/Mastercard payments. Link your card before you travel. See the full Alipay Setup section below.
🟠 Highly Recommended
Amap — AutoNavi (高德地图)
China's most accurate navigation app. Far more reliable than Google Maps inside China. Works offline. Also includes a ride-hailing feature — book taxis and cars directly from the app, like using Bolt.
Download and set the language to English before you travel. Use it for both navigation and booking rides — it is safer and cheaper than street taxis.
🟠 Highly Recommended
Canton Fair Official App
Exhibitor search, hall maps, shuttle bus schedules, appointment booking, and your digital badge QR code.
Log in with your buyer registration credentials before leaving Nigeria. Your badge QR code activates on April 10, 2025.
🟠 Highly Recommended
XTransfer App
Send payments to Chinese suppliers directly from your Naira account. Suppliers receive in USD or CNY within 1–2 business days.
Register and complete verification before your trip — it takes 24–48 hours. Contact Leo Yuan (0901-2222-888) for account setup assistance.
🟡 Recommended
VPN (ExpressVPN or NordVPN)
Access blocked apps from home: WhatsApp to communicate with family, Instagram, and Google search.
You MUST purchase and install before arriving in China. Once inside China, VPN app stores are blocked — you cannot download them on the ground.
Section 4.2

Alipay International Card Setup

Not being able to pay is the most common practical problem Nigerian traders face in China. Since 2024, Alipay supports direct payment with international Visa and Mastercard for foreign visitors — follow these steps exactly.

1
Download the Alipay app (App Store or Google Play) and open it. Select "Overseas Visitor" when prompted
2
Tap "Card" at the bottom of the screen → choose "International Card"
3
Enter your Visa or Mastercard details (card number, expiry date, CVV)
4
Your Nigerian bank will send a one-time OTP to your registered phone number — enter it to confirm
5
Once linked, scan vendor QR codes to pay in shops, markets, restaurants, and public transport
6
Daily spending limit is approximately $1,000 USD equivalent per transaction — sufficient for most market purchases
⚠️
Important — Do This Before You Travel: Call your Nigerian bank to inform them you will be transacting in China. GTBank, Access Bank, Zenith, and UBA all support international card use — but may block China transactions by default without prior notification. Ask your bank to whitelist China transactions on your card before you depart.
Section 4.3

Sourcing Cities Near Guangzhou

Guangzhou is your Canton Fair base, but some of the best prices are found in neighbouring manufacturing hubs. Use spare days or arrive 2–3 days early to maximise your China trip ROI.

Yiwu (义乌)
High-speed rail: 2h 20min · ¥150–250
Small commodities: watches, bags, accessories, toys, stationery, seasonal items, artificial flowers, Christmas goods
75,000 stalls at Yiwu International Trade Market — the world's largest small commodities wholesale market
Shenzhen (深圳)
High-speed rail: 35 mins · ¥80–140  |  Metro: 1.5 hours · ¥25
Electronics: phone accessories, circuit boards, USB cables, LED products, smart gadgets, security cameras
Huaqiangbei Electronics Market — the largest electronics wholesale hub in the world
Dongguan (东莞)
High-speed rail: 30 mins · ¥50–80  |  Bus: 60 mins · ¥30
Furniture, textiles, shoes, garments, toys, paper products, packaging materials
Best for factory-direct prices on fashion, furniture, and industrial goods — many Canton Fair exhibitors have factories here
Foshan (佛山)
Metro: 45 mins · ¥8–15
Ceramic tiles, bathroom fittings, kitchenware, aluminium profiles, architectural hardware, lighting
The largest ceramics and bathroom fittings wholesale market in China — essential for building materials importers
Zhongshan (中山)
Ferry from Nansha Port: 1 hour · ¥40
Lighting fixtures, lamps, LED technology, furniture, locks and hardware
China's #1 lighting export hub — if you import electrical goods or construction lighting, this city is worth a half-day visit
📅
Smart Itinerary: Arrive 3 days before your Canton Fair phase. Day 1: Settle in, set up Alipay, WeChat, and Canton Fair App. Day 2: Shenzhen or Foshan day trip. Day 3: Rest and fair preparation. Days 4–8: Full focus on Canton Fair. You will dramatically increase your trip's return on investment.
Section 4.4

Cantonese Food You'll Actually Enjoy

Guangzhou is the heart of Cantonese cuisine. These picks are widely liked by international visitors — approachable flavours, iconic local culture, and easy to find near the fair or downtown.

Think “culture”, not just calories: dim sum teahouses, claypot rice, and roast goose are part of how Guangzhou does business and leisure — perfect after a long day at Pazhou.

Must-try classics (四大金刚)
Dim Sum · 广式点心
Cantonese brunch
Small steamed baskets, tea, and conversation — like a relaxed business breakfast. Try har gow (shrimp dumplings), siu mai, and char siu bao (BBQ pork buns).
Wonton Noodles · 云吞面
Local comfort food
Silky wontons in a clear bone broth with springy noodles — refreshing mouthfeel, deeply savoury soup. The local comfort food when you want something quick between meetings.
Claypot Rice · 煲仔饭
Crispy rice “socarrat”
Rice cooked in a clay pot with meats and soy flavour — the golden “pot rice” crust at the bottom is the art of the dish. Especially appealing if you already enjoy rice-heavy meals.
Roast Goose · 烧鹅
Guangzhou signature
Crisp skin, juicy meat, glossy lacquer — order at a reputable roast-meat shop. Share a platter after closing a deal.
🥢
Practical tip: Point at pictures on the menu, use Google Translate camera before you land, or ask hotel staff for one nearby teahouse (yum cha) — lunch rush starts around 11:30.
Section 4.5

Guangzhou Sights & Day Trips

Mix landmarks, night views, and heritage between fair days — many spots double as quiet settings for follow-up conversations after noisy halls.

Canton Tower · 广州塔
City icon & observation decks
Must-do landmark. Great skyline photos and short videos for WhatsApp Status / Instagram (use VPN) — a clear social signal of a serious trip for partners and clients back home.
Pearl River Night Cruise · 珠江夜游
Business-friendly evening
Evening boats with a Pearl River light show — sip tea, watch the city glow, and talk business in a calmer setting than a noisy restaurant or fair hall.
Chen Clan Academy · 陈家祠
Lingnan architecture & folk art
Ornate halls and carvings — a compact cultural stop to understand regional history and craftsmanship.
Shamian Island · 沙面
Quiet colonial-era streets
European-style façades, tree-lined walks, cafés — quiet enough for follow-up conversations or reflection after loud exhibition halls.
Yongqing Fang · 永庆坊
Old meets new + souvenirs
Laneways with restored Lingnan houses, boutiques, and gift shops — good for souvenirs to take back to Nigeria.
Chimelong Water Park & Safari · 长隆
Full-day leisure (outside city centre)
Chimelong Water Park and Chimelong Safari / Wildlife World are large resort-style parks — plan a full day, book tickets online, and go on a rest day, not between fair phases if time is tight.
